Allow me to introduce Yahir

Can you describe your role at TCC and how you support care providers?
As a consultant at TCC, my role focuses on guiding and supporting care providers with their registration with the CQC. This will be discussed and identified during their consultation process and agreed in the personalised plan. During this process we will identify a number of regulatory and operational standards where appropriate and in agreement, TCC will support our clients with the smooth transition from registration to aftercare packages, providing ongoing support to the set-up and development of their organisations.
What inspired you to work in the care industry, especially in areas like compliance and development?
I worked in the social care industry for over 20 years in different settings and in different managerial roles. Before TCC, I worked as a CQC Registered Manager, I have a wealth of experience as an area manager and an operational development manager. I worked closely with the Quality Assurance Team, as an auditor, supporting a large geographical area of services with CQC compliance and readiness for inspections both from local authorities and the CQC.
How do you assist new care businesses in navigating regulatory requirements and setting up successfully?
I believe many care providers do need guidance and assistance with the ever-changing regulatory requirements. Understanding Regulatory Frameworks is paramount. TCC will identify and provides guidance via Mock Inspections and support/mentoring to the registered manager and the team. Ie: Quality Assurance systems, training, understanding of policies and procedures, recruitment, service users’ plans and risk management, health and safety compliance, investigations, complaints, safeguarding, and enhancing relationships with stakeholders.
All the team members that worked and supported me in setting up my business are all great, very knowledgeable and supportive in the process. Yahir was on top of it all! His professional advice, guidance and recommendations were excellent.
What common challenges do care facilities face during inspections, and how do you help them prepare?
In my experience, the common challenges during inspections are the lack of understanding of the standards and regulations in the CQC New Framework Assessment. Providers tend to see the inspections as an exercise to penalise them when in fact, an inspection is a tool to identify good practices and receive guidance and support to enhance the delivery of the service.
Common findings from CQC will be incomplete or disorganised documentation, care plans, risk assessments, training matrix, recruitment and background checks, lack of reporting of safeguarding concerns, complaints, lack of communication with health professionals and commissioners, etc.
Also, the lack of experience or understanding of the inspector/s carrying out the inspection. Feedback from managers is usually the lack of support or understanding from the inspector/s.
The mock inspection, the mentoring, and support to the manager will assist the care provider not just to be ready for an inspection but to have the team working in a manner that regulations and compliances are part of their day-to-day roles.
What strategies do you employ to enhance staff training and development within care organisations?
Firstly, we need to identify training needs according to the type of service delivery.
Make sure that we have an up-to-date Training Matrix in place, recording mandatory and additional training needs for the team, volunteers, and managers.
Network with training providers, like skills for care, train the trainer, Care Skills, and so on.
It is important to communicate with the local authority and access their training packages.
Online training most of the time isn’t enough, it’s wise to book in-class training for the team, as the support offered is more tailored to their needs. Ie: First Aid, break-aways techniques, etc.
There’s no doubt that a well-trained staff team provides the best support to the service users and the organisation, plus they feel confident and reassured in their roles.
What do you find most rewarding about helping care businesses grow and achieve compliance?
Personally, I enjoy when the manager and the team work in a confident manner. This shows clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities. When a service is run in a professional and transparent manner, service users and stakeholders benefit from this. Service users feedback on the service will provide the organisation with the opportunity for development and growth.
Outside of work, what activities or hobbies do you enjoy that help you stay energised and engaged?
I am member of a local swimming club, also paid member of the Tate Modern Gallery. I love Art and I do amateur painting. I enjoy outdoor activities, long walks and cycling. I have travelled around the world, something I really enjoy doing with friends, family, and most times on my own. I worked as an assistant costumer designer during the Covid years, something I enjoyed very much travelling and meeting really interesting people, making commercials, movies and TV shows.
